Good afternoon,

This is Detective Inspector Carr of Devon & Cornwall Constabulary. It is my solemn duty to inform you all that a tragic incident occurred at approximately 11.00am this morning involving the death of one Roger Haslam, a television director appointed to the 'two-minutes' documentary team. The police are treating this death as a murder enquiry.

I have been informed by one Joanna Richards, the producer of the said team, that other members have gone missing after being involved in a re-enactment of, I am also informed, a 'sacred hunt' performed in the early hours of August 11th for the purposes of the documentary. The missing team members were supposed to have congregated on the Rame Head peninsula, but never arrived. Miss Richards has confirmed with the police that the missing members are the following people: Ray Penhale, Eleanor Green, and 'Cat' (we have no surname for this individual.)

Given the large number of the general public that have been watching this world wide website since it opened last week, you are all witnesses in one way or another to the events leading up to the death of Mr. Haslam and the disappearance of his colleagues. It is an unprecedented move, especially in my experience as a detective, to hold enquiries in such a manner, but we believe that some good may come from involving those on this e-mailing list to contribute. I am therefore asking you all to think hard about anything you may have seen or heard over the past few days. If you have suspicions, or something occurrs to you, then I would appreciate it a great deal, if you would send me an e-mail message at the above address.

Your words will be dealt with in the strictest confidence. I would also say that this is a particularly grave matter, given the circumstances, and to reduce the amount of distress already apparent in friends and family, I would ask you to refrain from hoax e-mail messages and any other such unnecessary contributions to this case.
