You're right – it's what I've always said: sacrifice is an celebration of human superiority, their place as a bridge between the earth and the sky the mortal and immortal, their place within the greater scheme. To sacrifice someone is to recognise their importance. Hanging gives power over air, suffocation power over earth, drowning over water, cremation over fire. Death brings new life, power to life over the parts of life, the elements. Of course children and virgins are the traditional subjects, they are apart from society, not yet fully integrated into the world, closer to man's original place in the universe. But in our time what are children. Children are adults now – small adults, our children are our creations – we must kill our babys – the new sacrifice is the denial of ownership, a holding in common – our creations freely open to all. This is the creed of the new religion, a oneness with ideas, all mankind in communion with the electronic spirits about us. The ghosts of our ancestors are their books, their histories. Our gods are the forces that move the spirits and us across the void. To sacrifice to them is to render up that which stands between earth and sky – our understanding of ourselves.
